Finance

Russian bank cards do not work. Use cash (new-design US dollars), UnionPay, or QR payment via the TAGTHAi app.

The cheapest way to leave the airport is the blue Smart Bus for 100 baht. To call a taxi, use the Bolt or InDrive apps.

Mobile & Internet

It is more выгодно to purchase a tourist SIM card as an eSIM online or buy it at 7/11 rather than in the airport arrivals area.

Phuket Information

Phuket - essential travel information

Phuket represents a unique symbiosis of a high-tech tourism hub and an unspoiled tropical paradise. Thailand’s largest island has successfully completed its digital transformation by introducing a mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system and widespread QR code payment options for foreigners, making stays максимально comfortable for the modern traveler. The island has moved beyond being solely a beach destination, transforming into a global center of contemporary art thanks to the Thailand Biennale, whose installations adorn both the historic quarters of Phuket Town and the shores of the Andaman Sea.

The island’s geographical diversity allows every guest to find their ideal rhythm of life. The west coast offers a chain of more than 30 beaches: from lively Patong with its legendary nightlife on Bangla Road to upscale Bang Tao, home to the region’s finest beach clubs and golf courses. The southern part of the island around Nai Harn and Rawai preserves an atmosphere of tranquility and authenticity, making it a favorite among expats and seafood lovers, while northern areas such as Mai Khao provide kilometers of seclusion close to national parks and the airport.

The island’s transport infrastructure has made a significant leap forward. The Phuket Smart Bus system now connects the airport with all major west coast resorts for a fixed fare of 100 baht, offering an alternative to traditional taxis. For those who prefer active exploration, modern scooters and cars are available for rent, though Phuket authorities strictly monitor the possession of international driving permits and adherence to safety regulations. Digital applications such as Grab and Bolt ensure transparent pricing, eliminating the long-standing issue of inflated fares in tourist areas.

Phuket’s culinary landscape confirms its status as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Here, демократичные night markets with endless varieties of street food coexist with Michelin-starred restaurants offering innovative interpretations of Southern Thai cuisine. A new trend is ethical tourism: visiting elephant sanctuaries without riding and participating in volunteer programs to protect sea turtles, reflecting the island’s commitment to preserving its unique ecosystem for future generations.

Phuket this season is not just a destination but a complete experience, combining the spirituality of ancient temples such as Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha with modern entertainment at Andamanda and Carnival Magic water parks. With an extended 60-day visa-free stay for citizens of many countries, the island has become an ideal base for a long-term reset, offering the highest level of service, advanced medical care, and traditional Thai hospitality adapted to the demands of tomorrow.

The Bolt and InDrive apps usually offer lower prices than Grab. For short trips within one area, you can use tuk-tuks, but the price should be agreed upon in advance.

It is best to bring cash US dollars (new-design $50 and $100 bills - blue series) or euros.

No, all COVID-related restrictions have been completely lifted. To enter, you only need a passport valid for at least 6 months and a completed TDAC digital arrival card.

A 60-day stamp is issued free of charge upon arrival at Phuket Airport. It can be extended once for an additional 30 days at the local immigration office (fee – 1,900 baht). The number of permitted stay days is regularly updated.

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is an electronic replacement for the paper immigration card. It must be completed online on the official website of the Thai Immigration Bureau 1–3 days before departure. The QR code must be presented at passport control.

The PromptPay system is now available to foreigners through apps such as TAGTHAi or special PAY & TOUR cards from KBank. You top up the balance with cash and scan the seller’s QR code in any store or market.

Rental companies may provide a motorbike, but this is illegal. If you encounter the police, you will receive a fine (from 500 to 1,000 baht), and in case of an accident, insurance will not cover medical expenses. You need an international driving license of the appropriate category or a Thai driving license.

The center of nightlife remains Bangla Road in Patong. Beach clubs in Bang Tao (Catch Beach Club) and Kamala (Café del Mar) are also popular.

The rainy season (May–October) does not mean constant heavy rains. Showers are usually short-lived. The main danger is high waves and strong rip currents on the western beaches. You should swim only where lifeguards allow it.

In local cafes (street food stalls), a dish costs 60–100 baht. In mid-range tourist restaurants, it is 300–600 baht per person. A seafood dinner will cost 1,000–1,500 baht.

This spot is located on Mai Khao Beach, near the airport. The best time for photos is in the morning, when planes approach for landing from the sea (usually during the dry season).

The export of unprocessed shells, corals, and sand is prohibited by law. They are considered state property. Items purchased in souvenir shops may be taken out of the country if you have a receipt.

Sometimes jellyfish approach the shore, especially after a storm. Beaches usually have information boards and vinegar available for first aid. In case of a sting, contact the lifeguards immediately.

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is appreciated. In restaurants, it is customary to leave 5–10% of the bill if a Service Charge is not already included. For taxi drivers, you can simply round up the fare.
